I had a similar initial response. It's a very conservative first step into the CSC water. That doesn't really surprise me. Canon makes very solid equipment and can bring a lot of muscle to bear in terms of marketing. But they are mostly very conservative and not very innovative. I was also surprised they used an APS-C sensor rather than the 1.85 crop factor G1X sized sensor. My purely speculative guess is that this is not really a market they wanted to venture into and really don't want to develop a system that competes with the APS-C dSLRs. If they can get it well integrated with the extant system that will be a real plus. I'll guess the camera will sell pretty well and that higher end bodies will be along in the not too distant future. But on paper the camera looks pretty underwhelming.
