Primes worth shucking zoom for rugged hikes?

Just did a search and wasn't satisfied.

I've used all primes for MF film. The D800s now enters that realm of thought. I have loved my zooms with the D700. Was considering getting the 16~35 in addition to my 14-24 to avoid expense of bulk and expensive grads. Then thought maybe 1.8f type primes should be considered instead.

Keeping in mind hauling equipment on rather extended hikes for landscape what FL primes do you like in the 16~35 range for hauling around. Another words having to literally backpack it up slopes. How much better do you or don't you find the primes over the zoom for conditions I suggested. Do your primes make it worth shucking the convenience of the zoom?

Thanks
