As soon as you spin the control wheel back to the aperture value that the camera would choose automatically, the P* reverts back to just P.
Wow. Thanks SO MUCH! I just realized that every single shot I took this weekend had the same aperture. I must have done the same freaking thing. I distinctly remember the P*. Hate it when something like that happens.
