That looks good, but it's just 2.5 Megapixels instead of 10 or 20MP... By that standard I guess most quality compacts will have sharp corners.

Not necessarily.

Some 100% samples (e.g. the IR house poster shots) point to a significant difference in corner sharpness between RX100 and LX7 or XZ1, when using the same aperture (and all scaled to same size, e.g. 10 MP). Just to be sure: that's just my impression from I few shots that I could directly compare, the real story could be quite different but difficult to tell at this time.

I'm just going by my own real-world results. And my "bad" example is the NEX 16mm lens. While it's obviously a bit wider, you really need to knock it down to f/8 to get sharp corners in this shot. And that's something you can easily see in a shot sized like the one I posted here.

In the end, all I can say is that I've been using f/1.8 routinely in shots sized like this, and I sure don't see anything amiss in the corners. Yes, this isn't 100% pixel peeping, but I really haven't been doing any 100% pixel peeping -- I've just been out shooting with my camera. I think the shots I have posted have been really quite on the large size for processed shots, so I sure think these suffice quite well for "real world" results.
