Keep or sell the "Former Favorites" in our bags
Jul 20, 2012

Hi... I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this dilemma. As the lens collection has grown, and the bag overflows, what to do with the ones that were your favorites at one time. I've just ordered a 70-200 2.8 and it's going to put my 30 lb bag into the obese category. Since buying a 24-120 f4 and Sigma 50-500 OS, the 16-85 and 70-300VR get little to no use. I also have a 50 1.8G and Tokina 12-24. To add to the mess, my wife wanted a camera (and thought the 16-85 and 70-300 were too heavy), so I bought her a D5100 w/ the 18-55VR and 55-200VR kit lens -which weigh nothing and are surprisingly good.

I keep thinking that the 16-85 will be nice to have if I head to Europe since I'll cover a nice rage that would take the 12-24 and 24-120 to cover. And I justify the 70-300 so my wife won't be tempted to grab my 50-500. With the new one arriving soon, I'm starting to think it's time to part ways with some of the collection. But will I have regrets? Did you? Or are you in the same boat?
