Yes, there is a price to pay for good quality, but in the end, I think it is most always worthwhile to spend the money on a very well built lens with good-to-excellent quality optics. For the Sony mount, I think there is only one lens that delivers this and it is the Sony-Zeiss 24-70. Yes, again, it is an expensive piece of equipment, but if you want to upgrade to FF or if you want to sell it later on, you will get much more bang for the buck in the end.

I avoid Sigma, and your story makes me want to stay away from them. Maybe the new Tamron might be a much better deal, though it is not that cheap, and I am sure the Sony Zeiss lens has much better optics.

In the end it is a matter of choice, big money > better quality. The equation remains simple even though we want the best for less money...
