I did a test and it was better than RAW

I took a low light image with the Superior Auto mode and also RAW (using Sony's converter) and improbably the Superior Auto image, in JPEG of course, was superior, better detail retention. Very very surprising and impressive. I've performed similar tests with my NEX and RAW was better, but not here.

So, I would use it without worry. Also, one of the great features of this cameras is that you can use the image stacking feature is PASM modes, which is the first time I've seen that in a camera and its super helpful because, unlike Superior Auto, it means that you do not have to surrender full control of the camera. You can find this in the ISO options.
