Manual focus: SLT vs DSLR

Im having a terrible time getting quality clear correctly focused shots using manual on my a390.

When im looking in the VF it looks perfect, but the shot is crap. Only way I can tell is to review the photo and zoom in, using camera as I don't have a pc with me on vacation.

An additional question:can anyone who had trouble manual focusing with an earlier Sony DSLR switch to SLT and not have trouble? (As in, the EFV how is it with MF?)
