I first owned the 70-200 IS v1, which was always great, except the long end was not so hot. Many people over the years reported that. I picked up the 200 2.8 to handle the sharpness at wider aperatures that the zoom couldn't do. That little 200 was very sharp. Along comes the 70-200 IS v2. Once I got that, I never used the little 200 again. The updated zoom is that good now on the long end.
