Another question about "Set AE-L button to AF-ON"
Jul 18, 2012

bhD7000 wrote on the previous thread:

If you set the AF-ON button for focus you get more flexibility, but it takes a bit of getting used to.

To me the biggest benefit is the duality of it. Set the camera to continuous focus; AF-C and then;
Press AF-ON and hold for continuous focus tracking
Press AF-ON to focus on a specific point, then release it and re-compose

What I wonder is:

what if the camera is on a tripod and I am using a wireless remote trigger (so that holding the af-on button is impossible) and I need continous focus tracking (fe:shooting my kid) ?
how should the settings be for this occasion?
