K-r and soft-focus issue

Well, as I feared, CRIS Camera supposedly "adjusted AF to factory specifications" but it didn't improve the auto focus problem one bit. Pics are still out of focus when in AF mode. They are crystal clear and sharp when pic taken in live view or manual focus mode.

Not sure what to do now. Do I just always use manual focus or live view or what? I think I'll call Pentax support tomorrow and explain the situation to them. The camera is still under warranty. Any chance they'll admit the camera is defective and replace it for me? I doubt it, but worth a try.
