I know a lot of people who shoot with the 17-55 2.8 IS that would disagree with you. 4 extra stops of handholdability is a big deal even in the 24-70 range.

I don't believe Tamron ever produced a pro quality lens. My only experience with Tamron was the 28-75 f2.8. Although some praise this lens, I thought it was mediocre compared to my OE lenses. I doubt the quality of the Tamron will match the Canon 24-70 2.8 L. IS adds very little if anything at all to short focal length lenses.

Suspect you are in for a big disappointment.
