Honestly, why is there such a heated debate on the X10 battery? Yes, it sucks, but spare batteries cost 30 cents on Amazon. You can get 3 spare batteries for less $1 plus shipping. Not exactly a deal or bank breaker.

Because some people disingenuously say that the X10's battery life doesn't suck, that it's no worse than other cameras. While you can get extra batteries for $1, the additional cost is never the shipping cost, which comes to about $3 or $4 per battery. Buy 10 of those tiny suckers and see if the postage comes anywhere near $30 or $40. The amount above the shipping cost is the "handling" fee. You also risk getting defective or lower capacity batteries when you buy the cheapest that you can find, and if there are any disputes, you won't want to return the batteries to get your money back because you only get back $1 per battery, not the bulk of what you originally paid.

Even if you pay a lot more as I did for NP-50 clones from name brand companies such as Power2000, Kodak (KLIC-7004), Pearstone and others for from $7 to $12 per battery, it's still not a deal breaker. But it's important to avoid deceiving others that the X10's battery life is good. The people that say this tend to be the same ones that forever denied that orbs existed or if they did, wouldn't be visible without extreme pixel peeping. Keeping them honest should be encouraged, not discouraged.
