First tripod, looking at Manfrotto 055CX3

I would get the CXPro3 with the Q90 center column. That swing out center column is really useful sometimes. I keep it down most of the time but when you need it........you need it. I highly recommend the RRS ball heads. Probably a BH40 for that tripod. I have a BH40 on my 055CXPRO3. If money is no object I recommend the RRS 3 series tripods also.
