Impressed with A77 tracking focus again - seagulls
Jul 16, 2012

Today I was photographing seagulls with the A77 and Sony G 70-400 mm lens. I keep this lens at 400 mm almost all the time. Exposure was 1/1500 sec and aperture varied from f:6.3 to f:11 depending on the light level. I always use manual exposure settings for this kind of photography. All were raw, developed with Lightroom 4.

More important, autofocus was set to continious and center group forcus area, which I find excellent for larger birds in flight. I worked hard to keep the focus area on the bird's eyes and was rewarded with lots of keepers. Maybe 50% of the pictures were sharp, but then not all were interesting captures. Great fun! And a great camera!
