I use the DK-17M eyepiece on a D800E and it works well with a manual focus Rokinon (Samyang) 85mm f/1.4. I find it more difficult with an old Nikon 28mm f/3.5 AIS lens.

Why does it work less well with the 28mm? Just because it is difficult to judge the setting for best focus? Or some other reason?

Probably because the 85mm is f/1.4 and the 28mm is f/3.5.

I used to have the DK-17M on a D2x (which I sold several years ago). I liked the magnification, but found that, with the optional eyepiece, it was harder to see the electronic readouts in the borders of the viewfinder. I had to move my eye position to see those items. Perhaps this is because I wear eyeglasses. Do you find a similar effect on the D800?

Yes, the DK-17M is difficult to use with glasses. I don't wear glasses when looking through the viewfinder.
