Hi,

I still use 300d and upgraded gradually with entry level extra's:
420EX flash (from my old film EOS300)

  • 50 1.8

  • 18-55 IS version (I ditched the original 18-55; the IS verion is sharp)

  • 55-250 IS; tremendous value for money

  • undutchables firmware for RAW in all 300D modes and flash compensation

  • Lightroom for raw conversion and good enough noise removal and lens correction

I agree that the latest 18-55mm IS kit lens and the 55-250mm are both excellent upgrade choices that will make a visual difference in image quality that is more usable than just going to a higher megapixel count body. Also, I would recommend Canon's DPP raw editor (free) and also Sagelight 4 raw editor, a killer product that is a great match for Canon sensors at only $49.00
