HX30V: Disappointing Image Quality
Jul 16, 2012

I have been using HX30V for more than a month with more than 1000 pictures taken under different setting and for variety of scenes.

This camera is a number of features and options that are quite useful, however, basic image quality is purely unacceptable. The key problem is over-processing of images to a point that 18MB is effectively useless (if you downsample images or do not magnifiy to pixel level, it would be OK).

If this is not hardware related, Sony should consider releasing new firmware with option to skip over-processing images.

Background: I have been using Nikon DSLR (D1, D100, D200) and Canon point&shoot cameras for more than 10 years, with resolutions lower than HX30V. In both cases (Nikon and Canon) magnifying to pixel level does not show any of artifacts that I see with HX30V.

The second problem I see with HX30V is excessive noise, event at 400 ISO.
