Need AV with Minimal Performance Impact

Looking for (free) AV softwre for an old laptop running WinXP. Laptop isn't used much but it should probably have some minimal virus protection installed.

Would like AV to not have too much impact on startup speed or performance as these are poor enough already.

Any suggestions?
