Why not Tamron?

Why not the remarkable Tamron 17-50 2.8? (the version without VC) is rated highly by Photozone.de ( http://www.photozone.de/nikon--nikkor-aps-c-lens-tests/637-tamron175028d7000 ) and it is a constant aperture 2.8! Sure it lacks the VR but it's a faster lens, bringing you more creative freedom IMO. The shorter range might be a problem depending on what you shoot, but it is quite cheaper than the Nikon 16-85, meaning you could go ahead and add the money to the 70-300 (Nikon or Tamron), bringing you a ton more quality than your previous sigma superzoom.

Just my 2 cents.
