Indeed. I have gotten very good focus stack results by taking successive shots focusing at the farthestmost point of interest, then next farthest, then nearer all the way to the front.

Yes.

However, looks like this was a quick "point and shoot" at work...doubt if a focusing rail was handy...but I'm just guessing!
