get plastic or rubber coated tweezers to do the job. Regular tweezers do not grip very well and can scratch the surface of the glass. And if you slip while you are inside the camera, you may end up hitting something else (sensor, mirror) with the tweezer.

I have the Katz-Eye for my D60 and I have enjoyed using it. You do not lose any stops of light. However spot metering is affected. Katz-Eye has documentation on their site about how it affects spot metering. I am sure your cheapy screen will do very similarly.
