I never thought mirror slap would be the issue I have just seen

I got my D800 yesterday and have been fiddling with it with some long lenses on a tripod.

Well I thought I may as well try to microadjust the 70-200 by trial and error.

So I set it up and focussed on an air conditioner grill across the road. Perfect focus in live view no better when manually focussed.

No mattter where I microadjusted the autofocus it didnt improve. I scratched my head trying to figure out what was wrong.

Then it occured to me the smear was in the horizontal plane and was in fact mirror slap. Mirror up and no problems.

What I want to know is HOW ANY OF US CAN GET A SHARP PHOTO with the mirror banging away screwing things up.

Seems a bit more mass via the grip may be needed,
