Dying HD? HELP!
Jul 13, 2012

Aloha. I have a problem with an older PC. Recently it started taking a really long time to shut down; IE: 3-4 minutes instead of 30 seconds. It boots up normally and is running well for an older machine but the slow shutdown has me worried. I am wondering if the HD is cruising towards a meltdown.

Its an 8 year old Dell XPS400 running Win XP. 4 gigs RAM, 70 gig secondary internal HD used ONLY for PS swap files (no data storage or program files). All data files are stored off the computer on an external LaCie HD. I primarily run CS5, Lightroom 3 and Bridge on this machine. I routinely clean and defrag.

Any ideas as to what's happening? Trying to keep it running for at least 6 more months.

Mahalo.
