Flash was a good idea, as it can help to freeze small critters. Where you went wrong, though, was in having your camera set to Auto. I had a look at the exif data and it seems the camera set you to f/13! You certainly shouldn't be trying to capture small, fast moving bugs in poor lighting conditions at f/13. By setting for a more open aperture and, therefore, allowing for a fast shutter speed, you'll get better results.
