Actually I need to correct myself on this. When using the high frame rate in low light focusing was abysmal. Turned that off and the camera focused fine with minimal searching.

In manual exposure mode, inside, with flash, the camera stops the lens down to whatever it's set at instead of using it wide open for most light - which in turn makes focusing abysmal unless you open the aperture all the way, focus, return to the aperture you want. When you turn on Live View Boost this will also change the aperture back to wide open and the camera focuses fine again.

And I did read (and reread) the preview guide which mentioned the high frame rate helping focus speed, but I'm guessing that was only in good light cause in bad light it has the opposite affect.
