'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder' and so is the output from raw converters. Dan was correct:

Any difference people see in the results are due mainly to the initial defaults of each program, and with a bit of work all the programs can be set up to give identical results.

I'm not saying that the choice is not important - workflow considerations come into it - but there is nothing wrong with having a favourite program and believing that it's the best, an artist must have 100% faith in his methods.
