50mm is closer to our actual viewing range, with each eye independently being something like a 35mm wide angle lens. Our vision is really just a very fast and dirty composite of what both eyes see, along with the brain tossing in details that it knows is supposed to be there.

As a lifetime student of human visual perception I applaud this quick and concise summary of human field of view. The reality is much more complex but this compact explanation is really all you need.
