Imported goods are usually what we call Grey Imports and can be two things in so far as I know here in UK-same in US I think. They can be cheap products not manufactured by the original manufacturer i.e. Nikon (made in Taiwan or China) or more usually they are imported products into the US from say China without VAT/US taxes being paid-basically illegal products so when resold they usually come cheaper. Also there is a 3rd option and these could be goods that we describe as "fallen off the back of a wagon"! They are nevertheless risky items as they are not warranty covered in the USA or UK. By way the 18-200mm lens is a better walk about option.
