Haven’t had a problem with an 8 GB 133x Kingston CF card in the D70s back when I had one.
What camera manufacturers indicate as maximum capacity of memory cards to be used is what they guarantee will work. Chances are that larger cards will work just fine. E.g., I once bought a Canon PowerShot A75 cheap from eBay and called Canon over the memory card size, and they said the 512 MB indicated in the manual is what will guaranteedly work, but it worked no problem with the same 8 GB card.
Only exception here is the D50: as it cannot work with SDHC cards you’ll be limited to the old SD specification, i.e., mostly 2 GB, although some 4 GB SD cards are said to be available.
