Wireless flash trigger through concrete

Hi,

The other day I was shooting some engagement shots in a parking lot. I was trying to light up my subject from behind a concrete wall and I found I wasn't able to. Granted, I was using a cheap yongnuo trigger and receiver combo. Will I get better reception through concrete walls with a more expensive PocketWizard or Phottix trigger/receiver combo? Cause when I read the user manual for PocketWizard it says to stay away from concrete and water too. Just want to know if it's worth investing in upgrading my triggers.
