How do you set up your D3100/D3200 ?
Shooting jpegs (D3200), I found standard picture control with two additional steps of sharpening overcame the quite soft detail, without too much artifact. Noise reduction on (needed), Active D lighting on (why not - if it's too flat you can knock it back in post).
White balance is a bit problematic - auto doesn't cope and there's no Kelvin, so I did a manual balance with a card on a bright overcast day and leave it at that for daylight (??)
Biggest problem with the D3200 for me is the woeful write speed and tiny buffer. The camera clogs up with the minimal of captures if shooting raw+jpeg, and then you're left standing looking at the subject with a useless camera in your hands.
Hence the need to shoot jpeg only.
A Tenpa 1.22 magnifying eyepiece gets the viewfinder up to nearly D300 size and allows manual focussing.
Otherwise, a nice little unit, a tad lighter on the neck than a D4.
