Thanks for your advice and comparison, Larry.
Of course the Canon Vixia is a $700 camcorder and the Sony HX20V is a $400 P&S. I would never expect the HX20V's video to be anywhere close to the Vixia and I would never go for the HX20V if I could get the Vixia but what I'm talking about is how it does compared to, say a $400-$450 camcorder. I'm upgrading from an old Canon camcorder (not HD but beautiful video on an SD TV for its time(mini-DV) ) myself as it could not take good stills and I could not keep it in my pocket. Anyway, thanks for your comparison as I was wondering how it would stand out against a really good and expensive camcorder too.
