APS-C users: what would it take for you to move to full frame (A99)?
Jul 8, 2012

I've moved to full frame before only to move back to APS-C. I go back and forth with the reach advantage of APS-C versus the wide angle, resolution and DoF advantage of full frame. The thing I struggle with most though is the size difference. Not only the camera but when you replace APS-C lenses with full frame it adds quite a bit of size and weight (not to mention the cost). If the A99 is small enough, has enough new features that interest me, and a reasonable price tag I might consider it.

Here are some of the features that might tempt me to move to the A99:

  • Body similar to A77 in size and weight

  • Articulating LCD equal to the A77

  • Significantly better highISO performance

  • Expanded bracketing options (as compared to A77)

  • Timelapse and/or intervalometer

  • Even better EVF

  • Setting that intelligently switches to jpg mode when selecting a jpg only feature like auto HDR, etc

  • RAW crop modes or sRaw like feature

  • $2500 or less price tag

What features/capabilities (if any) would tempt you to consider moving from APS-C to full frame?

Sony SLT-A77 Sony SLT-A99
