Sorry, this is wrong. The A77 will record 29min50, and more importantly stop for good , if you want more you need to restart recording manually.

The whole point of that limitation is to make it a pain to record anything > 30min (you have to be there, press record again, and you'll lose a bit during the time the camera finalises the file) to avoid the tax, so it's pretty obvious it won't continue by itself.

The filesystem-induced splitting is another matter. A 29min50 recording will end up as 3 files on the card (1080p50 AVCHD), that will be merged back into 1 if imported with the Sony software, or that can be put back to back seamlessly in any common editing program.
