Re: Why questionners don't search first

Searching on dpreview or other good search engines can be overally general and cause frustration leading to forum members new and old to take the short cut and ask the question straight out. It astounds me as to how rude and demeaning replies can be. So much so that they drive members and potential members away. What do I do? I teach photography and have done so for over 35 years with 55 years in the industry . Being polite and helpful is not a hard thing to do. It is the right thing to ...

Perfectly correct and well said Maggie. These characters certainly drive away genuine users, often with genuine questions. A simple pleasant reply is beyond their comprehension.

Some of these 'critics' seem to spend much of their life here (I suspect it is their life) and actually feel genuine 'ownership' of the site ... hence their rapid, harsh brutal response to anyone they consider 'inferior' - which is pretty much all other users.

It does not take much to spot the regular pedantic 'Sheldon' characters - or worse, the self-appointed, belligerent, 'Guardians of m4/3rds' World - spouting instant bile at any who dare 'abuse' their world, no matter how innocently or unknowingly.

Even if implemented, I doubt your sensible suggestions would please them ...

I often see some regulars get frustrated with the same questions coming up from new questionners. But it's no good getting cross with them, they've already committed the "crime".

This forum is simply too big to search properly, and would benefit from subdivisions under headings. The subdivisions would make it a whole lot easier to search. Especially if posters put properly descriptive names into the titles of their threads. I have used the search box quite a bit myself and find it doesn't really help. Eg if I have a G3 question it returns everything ever said about a G3, most of which is useless to me.

Is this an impossible thought? Or even a crazy one?
