Yes, I have seen it stated that the number in the Nikon autofocus module referred to the number of pixels in the autofocus sensor (e.g., 3500 in the Multi-CAM3500FX), but with a total of at least 132 (2 * (30 + 36)) linear arrays that would give only about 27 pixels per array, and I think there must be more than that.
