Re: In-body IS revisited
In reply to Suave, Jul 6, 2012

And this is one of the issues... IS is still an evolving technology. I have three lenses with IS: the kit EFS 18-55, the EF 70-200/2.8L II, and the EF 100L macro. The IS in the stock lens seemed pretty nice until I bought the other lenses - now that basic IS seems pretty crappy to the point that I'm not sure I'd want it in the body for free. The IS in the 70-200 is truly spectacular - I regularly get sharp images at 1/8 and 200 mm. The macro IS is its own strange, but mostly effective beast (even if it doesn't quite help in the way Canon advertised). So... I'm happy that the lenses feature improved IS, but would I want any one of those systems built into the body (where I might turn it off in favor of the lens IS), and at what price point? If an 8-stop IS became available, then maybe stick it in the body and put a fork in the discussion.
