Can I buy this camera? Is it worthy of 2012 technological advancement? Is the improvement attractive enough to warrant an upgrade? To ask so many questions before the launch is like asking a elected political figure to step down before he is going to have his first day in office!

First of all, Samsung should be applauded for the lens f-value advancement and commitment to stay on the path of EX-?: maintaining a flip screen, raw file capable, good optics and durable camera body. The EX1 feature set provides the best user interface and image performance among all available compact cameras for day to day photographic situations.

On the other hand, the new camera has not only the SAME shortcomings of the old one, it is getting worse, namely:

1. Really short battery life and is going to be even shorter because of the smaller battery in the new camera;

2. Visible purple fringing of the lens likely to be more obvious at larger aperture;

3. Slow max. shutter speed (presuming same as EX1) will render F1.4 DOF useless outdoor; though the ND filter may help but no report available yet on the stop down value of the filter. Why not simply lower the min. ISO value to 50?

4. Lack of filter thread in front of lens for, say, stopping down by polarizer filter and attaching lens hood to reduce glare.

Orientation sensor to auto rotate portrait photos is bitterly missed.

Product image shows the ring around lens barrel which is almost identical to EX1. If it is threaded hope it accepts the same x0.7 conversion lens sold by Samsung for EX1. Also hope that Samsung can improve the optical quality of that conversion lens.

To conclude, I rather Samsung improves EX? on the above issues and produces a even more practical tool for photographers. More pixels, HD video and Wifi? Well, thanks a lot, not yet convinced their worthiness.
