Yep, and lets you do it selectively to only certain areas of the frame ("locally"), if needed, and quite often that's a very good practice.

The Nikon converters (free View NX2 and Capture NX2) can read the section of the RAW that tells the converter to apply NR. Adobe (and all other RAW converters) cannot.

If you use Nikon software to process your Nikon RAW, you will get the NR that you applied in camera.

Or if you convert with Adobe or other RAW converters, you must add in this step separately in post.
