Clearly you're not familiar with film or how WB was corrected in film days (or what it looked like uncorrected). This issue is one of complex-wb, as you can see from images like this: does a good job of explaining different light sources, color temperatures and resulting corrections.

Sometimes you may want the cast complex lighting can create, like using a flash indoors with incandescent lighting:

these are all various examples of color shift in portions of an image due to complex lighting situations. wandering into one unprepared for the result it might yield makes for a frustrating experience. understanding how to correct it makes it a lot less troublesome.
