X100 AF-S vs AF-C

A couple of times yesterday, the X100 repeatedly failed to achieve focus in situations where I couldn't see what the problem was. The second time this happened, I switched to AF-C and it nailed the focus immediately.
I've avoided using AF-C due to the increased battery drain but, if the AF is simply more effective in that mode, I'll live with the battery life issue.
How do you experienced X100 users compare the two modes of AF?
