How to: Fireworks?
Jul 3, 2012

Had a company event yesterday night and took advantage of having front row seats to a fireworks show about 100 yards away.

Pics are on my home PC so can't provide examples at the moment.*

I ended up with a bunch of photos that I feel were overexposed. The night sky should be pitch black but many of mine had a lighter bluish hue to it. I used ISO 1000/1250 at f11 with shutter speeds varying between 13/10 to 4" . I found the "best" shutter speeds to be around 13/10 to 2" .

What are some tips and pointers for shooting fireworks? Going to be in Boston and then Maine over the weekend so I'd like to be able to try my hand at them again.

Any particular f#, SS, and ISO I should be shooting at?

Also, any suggestions on reframing quickly? My el cheapo tripod takes forever to readjust so I ended up with several photos I liked that were out of frame
