But I'd pick the d800e for your use every day, it is just so flexible. High res when you need it, 1080p when you need it, smaller form factor, better AF (this really isn't debatable if your d800's sensors work, the AF just locks on, and I thought the D3 was good! (I guess 'was' is the key term here.
As good of high ISO even when you downres.

These are good points. and the -2EV capable AF is something even D3S can't beat. The 9MP OOC JPEG from ISO12800 rocks as well.

And supercomputer? Really? I have a two year old i7 that eats up d800 files just like It were D3 or D200 files. It was $900 at the time, you could get better or cheaper now. The real question is HD space. But 2TB drives are getting cheaper all the time, And also video encoding.

Guess it's all subjective! I have a i7-2600k OC'ed to 4.x GHz , 16GB RAM everything all cranked up with a boot SSD and yet 36MP images just mean they are 3x slower to process/open than 12MP images regardless of the system you are on. The slow down is painfully obvious! The machine used to slice open D700 RAWs just like JPEGs !
