D800 vs 4x5?

I'm a Canon user intrigued with the 36MP D800. Some (magazines) have said the D800m rivals medium format cameras with regard to sharpness. I've always been impressed and jealous of 4x5 pics, especially of landscapes and indeed of any subject with multiple small subjects such as a crowd shot. Just wondering - would the D800 come close to a 4x5?
