-Now you know why many people eventually overcome their BCP (Big Camera Paranoia) after moving up from a point-and-shoot.

-Try renting a D700 or D800 for 1 or 2 days.

I have 2xD700 and 1 D7k w/ a grip. I like the quiet shutter (yes, wedding clients and other events do make a fuss about how "loud" the D700's shutter is) and extra reach that DX gives me. But from an ergonomic standpoint, a D300 or D700 fits my hand better.
YMMV.

-Be aware of counterfeit MB-D11 grips.
