I would leave IS on, if only so you don't forget to have it on when you move down to slower shutter speeds for whatever reason. It won't hurt you at all. Do turn it off when using tripod because otherwise the floating element in the lens vibrates a bit in place causing a slight blurring. If you know for sure you'll be shooting at high shutter speeds all day you can turn it off to save some battery life, but unless you spend hours and hours shooting you probably won't have a problem anyway.
