What you really need in addition to reducing the exposure time is as hinted, a device to track the stars. I just bought (and not used die to weather) such an item. It is the Vixen Polarie. I am eager to try it, but all the images I have see taken using the VIXEN POLARIE are very good. It make your camera move & track the celestial bodies at the earth's rate of movement, which is what makes the photos blurry and getting star trails. I don't use more than 10 secs or 15 (pushing it) depending on camera , lens capabilities. Old post but data stays here for later use. I have not used my Polarie yet and I am dying to!
