Found a small gray (pigeon?) feather yesterday. Tried my new Raynox DCR-250 on a Sigma 105 macro and E5 on it.
Used an FL36 for a strong backlight.
Looking at the results, I got mesmerized by the 'technology' of feathers. It is strong but flexible, airtight, easy to repair (first made picture 1 and then repaired the feather for picture 2), ... And this is just the result of, well, dead cells. Just as our nails or hair but far more complex.
And, I was wondering if the colors are diffraction effects? This would mean that the threads are in the range of 100'ths of nanometers or at max a few micrometers
