Having more time to read through the replies, here're mine:

Les: Obviously, judging a photo as being "interesting" or "inspiring" could be very subjective. I myself do not find your photo to be neither of the above. I in fact find it rather boring & unimaginative.

Suntan gave me some pretty good pointers in cropping although I don't quite agree with his point of having to have all the pastries in focus: they're all the same. Just a representative of each is enough, IMHO.
